If you open an attachment in an Outlook or Outlook Express message, edit it, save the changes, and then forward it to another recipient, the changes are not saved and the recipient may receive the original version.
To work around this problem, save the attachment to your local hard disk before editing or forwarding the attachment. To save a file attachment, right-click it, click Save As, click an appropriate folder in the Save In box, type a descriptive name in the Named box, and then click OK.
When you open file attachments that are considered safe, Outlook and Outlook Express save these attachments in a subdirectory under the Temporary Internet Files directory as an additional precaution. This is the default behavior.
Note We recommend that you save the attachment to your local hard disk before editing and forwarding the attachment. This is true with of all versions of Outlook and Outlook Express.

Configure Microsoft Office Outlook Collaboration & Security
Collaboration with Other Programs
By default, Microsoft’s Office Outlook program (not to be confused with the Outlook Express program) is set to process only email created by one of the programs in Microsoft’s Office suite. To be able to send email through Microsoft Outlook from Windows programs (such as CTI Navigator Desktop) that are not part of Microsoft Office, you need to either install Outlook’s Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) feature from Microsoft or, for Outlook 2010 (which lacks a CDO feature), install special files from CTI to an existing installation of CTI Navigator. New installations include these special files.
Attempting to send email through Office Outlook without installing Microsoft’s CDO code or without CTI’s special files can cause errors such as a CDO error, Active X error (429), or Unspecified error. To install the CDO feature or CTI’s special files for Outlook, click here, or see “Fix Office Outlook Email CDO or Unspecified Error” inthe related articles below, and follow the instructions for your version of Outlook.
Where does Microsoft create the Outlook Temporary folder (better known as the Outlook OLK folder)? Or, where does Microsoft store that pesky OLK folder and temporary data such as attachments?
Depending on the operating system, version of Outlook, and the user currently logged in, the OLK temporary folder gets created in a different location. The good news is, it’s simple to find no matter the version of Outlook, including Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, and Outlook for Microsoft 365 (or O365).
To determine the spots where folders got created, open the Windows registry using regedit.exe and look for the Registry key OutlookSecureTempFolder using the map below:
