ABOUT THIS GAME

Azriel Odin, ex-assassin, arrives on the rain-drenched planet of Barracus. When things go horribly wrong, he can only seek help from the very criminals he used to work for.

Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a man called Delta-Six wakes up in a hospital with no memory. Without knowing where to turn or who to trust, he vows to escape before he loses his identity completely. The game, developers Wadjet Eye put you in the shoes of Azriel Odin, an ex-assassin who arrives on the “rain-drenched planet of Barracus to find someone.”

Apparently, things don’t go as planned – as storylines in game are wont – and Odin must seek out other criminals he worked with to help him out.

However, over yonder in another galaxy, a fella by the name of Delta-Six wakes up in a hospital with no memory, and while not knowing where to go or whom to trust, vows to escape “before he loses his identity completely.”

“As fate brings these two men closer together, we discover a world where life is cheap, identities are bought and sold, and a simple quest for redemption can change the fate of a whole galaxy.”

And there’s the hat-trick of top class indie releases! IGF Student Showcase winner and dark sci-fi adventure game Gemini Rue (previously Boryokudan Rue) will be released today, and a demo has just come out allowing you to sample its rainy, future-noir flavour. The game proper is available from the Wadjet Eye site and the demo is being hosted over on Gamefront here. I’ll be posting some impressions the moment I dig myself out from under this pile of games. At this point I can’t even tell where I end and the games begin.

Graphic adventures have thousands of followers, being one of the genres that have ended up producing great sagas, like King’s Quest, Sam & Max and Leisure Suite Larry, to name just a few. Due to this great success, there still many titles published for this genre each year, like Gemini Rue.

An intergalactic graphical adventure

This game’s developers have placed a great emphasis on the story that they want to tell, mixing the noir film genre of the ’50s with a futuristic story that takes place on a faraway planet. In exchange for providing the story with such importance, Gemini Rue leaves aside the great graphics, turning back to a VGA aesthetic that helps the player to concentrate on what is important, solving the enigmas that it proposes.

The development of the characters is very well accomplished, and as time goes by it will help the player to get fully involved in the story. This, together with the simplicity of the point-and-click system, makes Gemini Rue a title that is really worth playing.

Therefore, if you want to experience the intrigue and excitement of the great titles of the graphic adventure genre or you simply want to play this kind of game for the first time, you should try out Gemini Rue.

The game was chosen as the best student project at the 2010 Independent Games Festival (Independent Games Festival).Gemini Rue presents a pessimistic vision of the future, in which the dominant role is played by the Boryokudan syndicate. Players take on the two characters. The first of these is Odin Azriel quest was a hired assassin tracking down fugitive from Gemini. The second is being held in a hospital inmate, whose memories have been erased by a mysterious organization. Initially, the stories of these two men will be behind him, but not with the progress in the story we discover more and more links between them.

The game tells the story of two playable characters, retired assassin Azriel and Delta Six, a man trying to recover his identity after his memory has been wiped. You can soak up the atmosphere in the new demo, which lets you play through the game’s opening.
